Week of January 10th

Monday: a.m. An easy 4 miles at Rock Bridge. It was extra easy because of all the melting snow. 26:13.

p.m. 5 X 1000 meters on the track in 2:45, 2:46, 2:49, 2:47, 2:46 with Tim Ross, Noonan, and Josh. A total of 8 miles. I felt really good in this workout and am excited to see what I can do in a 3000 this weekend.

Tuesday: a.m. Ran 10 miles with Tipper through Grindstone Park. 62:13.

Wednesday: a.m. 10 mile run with 8 X 1 minute surges with 2 minutes rest on the MKT trail. Felt really relaxed. 61:45.

p.m. 4 miles easy with Ross on the MKT trail. 26:00

Thursday: a.m. 8 miles in 56:00 on the MKT with Barrows and Ross. It iced and snowed last night, so the trail is covered and it's impossible to run fast.

Friday: a.m. The team met at 9 a.m. for warm-ups.

p.m. This was my first race since last May. I ran a 3k in 8:17.17 and won our only indoor home meet of the year. This was also the last time that I will race as a Tiger in the Hearnes Center so it was good to win. Tim Ross set the pace through 2k before dropping out and I just ran behind Matt Hooley until the last 150 meters. It felt really good to get the season started. I've been waiting to race a long time. Warm up: 13 minutes. Cool down: 30 minutes. 9 miles total.

Saturday: a.m. Our team met at 10 a.m. in the Hearnes Center to do a long run. I ran 16 miles on the MKT in 1:41 with Ross, Barrows, Billy, and Colten. It was cold and icy, so this run became pretty miserable towards the end.

Sunday: a.m. I ran 7 miles easy in Rock Bridge State Park by myself. Rock Bridge is my favorite place to run in Columbia, maybe in the whole world. I took it really easy. The trails were covered with snow and ice from last night. 47:53.

Weekly Total: 76 miles. I feel really good about the training that I did this week. In years past, I have ran well in indoors, and then blown up in outdoors. This year I am going to do everything I can to avoid that happening again. The mileage is not going to come down for a long time. Also, I think that a 1500 meter race might be a little too short for me and I look forward to running some 5k's during outdoor track.
