The new
ESPN news magazine show E:60 will provide a sneak preview of a segment on
Widener’s six-time national champion runner Macharia Yuot. The story chronicles
Yuot’s torturous journey as a nine-year-old across The Sudan to escape the
ravages of the nation’s civil war, his record-shattering track and cross country
career at Widener, his struggles to become a U.S. citizen,
his emotional journey back to The Sudan to reunite with his mother, and his
preparation for the U.S. Olympic Trials in November.
E:60
features a stable of award-winning journalists (Tom Farrey, Jeremy Schaap, Lisa
Salters, Rachel Nichols and Michael Smith) and equally honored production
staff. The name is a play on the “360” concept, reflecting the show’s
philosophy to approach its storytelling from all angles—from the way it shoots
interviews and reporter-producer meetings, chronicles reporters’ experiences
and tells compelling stories, to the multimedia platforms that will deliver
E:60’s high-quality content.
A question
and answer session with Macharia Yuot, ESPN reporter Tom Farrey and Widener
Track and Cross Country Coach Vince Touey will follow the preview.
Admission
is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
